Estadio Municipal de La Pintana is a multi-purpose sports stadium located in the commune of La Pintana, in the Santiago Metropolitan Region of Chile. It is owned by the Municipality of La Pintana and administered by the Corporación Municipal de Deportes de La Pintana (Municipal Sports Corporation of La Pintana).
Location and Facilities
The stadium is situated at Avenida Ciudad de México 1589, La Pintana, Chile, at coordinates 33°35′12″S 70°38′09″W. The main football pitch measures 105 by 68 meters and has a natural grass surface. Reported seating capacity figures vary by source: the English Wikipedia and several other references cite approximately 5,000 spectators, while the Spanish Wikipedia and the Corporación Municipal de Deportes list approximately 4,800. The facility also includes a second football pitch with synthetic turf, an athletics track, a bicycle motocross (BMX) track, a skating rink, an artistic skating track, a climbing wall and boulder, clay tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, a training gymnasium, a skatepark, and a cross-country circuit.
History
The stadium was inaugurated in September 1996. Its facilities have been described as being of a high standard, and metropolitan authorities have at times recommended the venue as an alternative site given the shortage of sports infrastructure in Chile. The stadium has hosted a concert by the musician Manu Chao and friendly matches of the Chilean under-20 national team in preparation for the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.
Sports Tenants and Events
Since 2007, the football club Santiago Morning has played its home matches at the stadium, including matches in Chile's Primera División. The club briefly relocated to Melipilla in early 2010 but returned to the venue later that year. Other football tenants have included Deportes Pintana and La Pintana Unida. The stadium has also served as the home ground for the Trapiales Rugby Club.
The stadium has hosted international rugby events, including matches of the Americas Rugby Championship in 2016 and 2018, the South American Rugby Championship in 2016 and 2017 (which also served as qualifiers for the Rugby World Cup), and the Sudamericano de Rugby A in 2017. In May 2017, it hosted matches between Chile and Brazil and between Chile and Paraguay in the South American Rugby Championship, both of which Chile won. Since 2023, the rugby union franchise Selknam has played its home matches at the stadium in the Super Rugby Americas competition. The venue also served as a rugby venue for the 2023 Pan American Games held in Santiago.
In October 2023, a high-definition video screen was installed in the northern sector of the stadium.
