Ernest M. Micek (born 1936) is an American business executive best known for his tenure as chief executive officer and chairman of Cargill, one of the largest privately held corporations in the United States.
Early life and education
Micek was born in 1936 in the United States. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and subsequently received a Master of Business Administration from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Career
Micek began his professional career with Cargill in 1961, initially serving in the grain merchandising division. Over the following decades he held a series of increasing responsibilities, including vice president of the North American grain business and president of the North American operations.
In 1990, Micek was appointed president of Cargill. He succeeded John Leonard as chief executive officer in 1995 and became chairman of the board in 1996, positions he retained until his retirement in 2006. Under his leadership, Cargill expanded its global footprint, diversified its product lines, and strengthened its position in commodity trading, agricultural services, and food production.
After retiring from Cargill, Micek remained active on corporate and nonprofit boards. He has served on the boards of directors for companies such as United Health Services and the biotech firm C. R. Bard. Additionally, he has been involved with educational and charitable organizations, including the University of Wisconsin Foundation and the Mayo Clinic.

Micek's contributions to business and industry have been recognized with several honors, including induction into the Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame.
