Eric Comrie (born January 6, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He currently plays for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Early life and junior career
Comrie was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. He is the son of former NHL defenseman Bill Comrie and the brother of former professional hockey player and current businessman Paul Comrie. Comrie played major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Tri-City Americans from 2011 to 2015, appearing in 124 regular‑season games and posting a .903 save percentage.
Professional career
Draft and early development
The Winnipeg Jets selected Comrie in the second round, 35th overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. After concluding his WHL tenure, he signed an entry‑level contract with Winnipeg on April 1, 2015. He spent the initial years of his professional career primarily in the American Hockey League (AHL) with Winnipeg’s affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, and later with the St. John’s IceCaps.
Winnipeg Jets
Comrie made his NHL debut on October 7, 2015, with the Jets, recording a 34‑save shutout in a 3–0 win over the New York Rangers. He appeared in a total of 22 NHL games for Winnipeg between 2015 and 2020, posting a cumulative .896 save percentage.
Subsequent trades
On July 13, 2020, Comrie was traded to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a 2020 seventh‑round draft pick. He appeared in two games for Arizona before being placed on waivers and subsequently claimed by the Buffalo Sabres on February 23, 2021. The Sabres assigned him to their AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans, where he played the remainder of the 2020‑21 season.
Dallas Stars
On July 28, 2021, Comrie signed a one‑year, two‑way contract with the Dallas Stars. He began the 2021‑22 season with the Texas Stars of the AHL, where he posted a .918 save percentage and a 2.45 goals‑against average (GAA). He was recalled to Dallas for several stints during the season and recorded his first win with the Stars on March 12, 2022, against the Minnesota Wild.
International play
Comrie represented Canada at the 2015 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, where he served as a backup goaltender. Canada won the gold medal in the tournament.
Playing style
Comrie is noted for his positional play and quick reflexes. At 6 ft 1 in (185 cm) and 190 lb (86 kg), he combines size with agility, allowing him to handle high‑traffic situations effectively.
Personal life
Comrie comes from a family with strong ties to professional hockey; his father, Bill, played 128 NHL games, and his younger brother, Ty, was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 2015. Eric is also involved in charitable initiatives in the Greater Vancouver area, focusing on youth sports development.
