Eric Bloom

Eric Bloom (born April 5, 1944) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter best known as a founding member, lead vocalist, and guitarist of the rock band Blue Öyster Cult. Bloom was born in New York City and grew up in the Bronx. He began playing music in his teenage years, initially performing in local bands before co‑founding the group that would become Blue Öyster Cult in the late 1960s.

In 1971, Bloom, along with guitarist Donald "Buck" Dixon, vocalist Sandy Pearlman, and others, formed the band Soft White Underbelly, which later evolved into Blue Öyster Cult. Bloom contributed to the band’s songwriting, vocal harmonies, and lead guitar parts. He co‑wrote several of the group’s most commercially successful tracks, including “(Don't Fear) The Reaper,” “Burnin’ for You,” and “Godzilla.” Throughout his tenure with the band, Bloom has performed on all of Blue Öyster Cult’s studio albums and extensive touring schedules.

Beyond his work with Blue Öyster Cult, Bloom has participated in various side projects and collaborations. He has contributed guest vocals and instrumentation to recordings by other artists and has been involved in production work. Bloom’s musical style is characterized by a blend of hard rock, progressive elements, and lyrical themes that often reference science fiction and mythology.
