Enzo Héctor Trossero (born 23 May 1953) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a defender and later became a manager. Known for his robust playing style and leadership on the field, Trossero had a distinguished playing career primarily with Independiente in Argentina and FC Nantes in France, and also represented the Argentina national team, including at the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Following his retirement as a player, he embarked on a long and varied managerial career across South America, Europe, and the Middle East.
Playing Career
Trossero began his professional career with Club Atlético Unión in 1971. His talent quickly earned him a move to Independiente, one of Argentina's "big five" clubs, in 1975. He established himself as a key defender, known for his strength, aerial ability, and tactical awareness.In 1979, Trossero moved to European football, joining French club FC Nantes, where he continued to impress. After two seasons in France, he returned to Independiente in 1981 for a second, highly successful spell. During this period, Trossero was instrumental in Independiente's triumphs, most notably winning the Copa Libertadores in 1984 and subsequently the Intercontinental Cup against Liverpool later that year.
He later had stints with Estudiantes de La Plata, Racing Club, Atlético Mineiro in Brazil, FC Sion in Switzerland, and Sportivo Italiano before retiring as a player in 1989.
International Career
Enzo Trossero earned several caps for the Argentina national team between 1975 and 1985. He was part of the squad that participated in the 1982 FIFA World Cup held in Spain, where Argentina was eliminated in the second group stage.Managerial Career
After retiring from playing, Trossero transitioned into management. His coaching career has been extensive, managing numerous clubs in Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia, as well as two stints in Switzerland and one in France.
