Emeka Atuma is a Nigerian politician from Abia State. He served as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency from 2003 to 2007. In subsequent years he remained active in regional politics, contesting for higher office and holding brief appointments in federal development bodies.
Early life and education
Emeka Atuma was born in January 1969. He is a native of Ikwuano Local Government Area in Abia State, Nigeria. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Calabar.
Political career
- House of Representatives (2003–2007): Atuma was elected to the lower chamber of Nigeria’s National Assembly, where he represented the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
- Senate candidacy (2023): He ran as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Abia Central Senatorial District in the 2023 elections.
- South East Development Commission (2024): In December 2024, President Bola Tinubu appointed Atuma as chairman of the South East Development Commission (SEDC). The appointment was rescinded less than 24 hours later, with Emeka Nworgu named as his successor.
