Else Hammerich

Else Hammerich (born 1936) is a Danish politician and former Member of the European Parliament (MEP). She is best known for her prominent role in the People's Movement Against the EU (Folkebevægelsen mod EU), a Danish Eurosceptic political organization.

Hammerich served as an MEP for Denmark from 1979 to 1994, representing the People's Movement Against the EU. During her time in the European Parliament, she was a vocal critic of increasing European integration, advocating for national sovereignty, peace, and disarmament. Her political work often focused on challenging the economic and political power of the European Communities (EC), which later became the European Union (EU), and promoting an alternative vision of international cooperation based on independence and non-alignment.

As a leading figure in the Danish Eurosceptic movement, Hammerich played a significant role in public debates surrounding Denmark's relationship with the EC/EU, particularly during referendums on European treaties. Her consistent stance against the transfer of power to supranational institutions made her a recognizable voice for those who opposed further integration. After leaving the European Parliament in 1994, she continued to be an active participant in public discourse on European affairs.
