Ellen Sprunger

Ellen Sprunger (born August 5, 1986) is a Swiss former track and field athlete who specialized in the heptathlon and sprint events. During her professional career, she represented Switzerland in multiple international competitions, including the Olympic Games, World Athletics Championships, and European Athletics Championships.

Sprunger competed in the heptathlon at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she finished in 19th place. She returned to the Olympic stage for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, competing as a member of the Swiss 4x100-meter relay team. Her personal best score in the heptathlon is 6,124 points, which she achieved in May 2012 in Landquart, Switzerland.

In addition to her Olympic appearances, Sprunger participated in the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, finishing 13th in the heptathlon. She was a regular contributor to the Swiss national relay program, helping the team achieve various national records and competitive placements in European circuits.

Sprunger comes from a prominent Swiss sporting family; she is the older sister of Lea Sprunger, an accomplished Olympic hurdler and European champion. Ellen Sprunger officially announced her retirement from professional competitive athletics in 2017.
