Eley, Şereflikoçhisar

Eley is a neighbourhood (mahalle) in the municipality and district of Şereflikoçhisar, located in Ankara Province, Turkey. According to the Address‑Based Population Registration System (ADNKS) results published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the neighbourhood had a population of 65 residents as of 2022.

Geography
Eley lies within the Central Anatolia region of Turkey, in the southeastern part of the Şereflikoçhisar district. The area is characterized by the steppe landscape typical of the broader Central Anatolian plateau.

Administrative status
Historically classified as a village, Eley was redesignated as a neighbourhood following the 2012 municipal reform (Law No. 6360), which transformed many rural settlements in Turkey into neighbourhoods within larger municipal structures. It is administratively governed by the Şereflikoçhisar district municipality.

Demographics
The small population reflects the rural and sparsely populated nature of many settlements in the district. Population figures are based on the 2022 ADNKS data; earlier censuses recorded slightly higher numbers, indicating a gradual decline consistent with rural depopulation trends in the region.

Economy and infrastructure
Eley’s economy is primarily based on agriculture and animal husbandry, typical of rural communities in the Ankara hinterland. Basic services such as road maintenance and utility provision are overseen by the district’s municipal authorities. Recent municipal projects have included road surface improvements within the neighbourhood.
