Effie is an unincorporated community in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is located on the banks of the Red River of the South, approximately 8 miles northwest of the parish seat of Marksville. Its ZIP code is 71331.
History
The area was originally known as "Point Maigre" by early settlers, a French term referring to a thin point of land along the Red River. The community was established around 1898 as a post office settlement. Benjamin F. Garlington, the local postmaster, renamed the area "Effie" after his daughter, Effie Cornelia Garlington. The post office operated out of Garlington's home near the site of the present-day historical marker.
Effie became a focal point for Ward One of Avoyelles Parish when LaFargue High School was built in 1929, consolidating schools from the surrounding area.

Effie is situated at coordinates 31°12′58″N 92°09′20″W, at an elevation of approximately 82 feet (25 meters) above sea level. The community lies within the Red River floodplain, featuring alluvial soils deposited by the river. It is accessible via Louisiana Highway 107 and State Highway 115.
