Edward B. Lewis

Edward B. Lewis (May 1, 1918 – July 21, 2004) was an American geneticist renowned for his pioneering work on the genetic control of development, particularly through his studies of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. His research on homeotic genes laid foundational concepts for the field of developmental biology and earned him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1995, shared with Christiane Nüsslein‑Volhard and Eric F. Krebs.
