History
The community was originally platted in 1889 and was initially called “Catherine City.” It was later renamed Edgerton in honor of Edward G. Edgerton, the chief engineer of the Chicago, Kansas and Western Railway, which contributed to the town’s development.
Geography
Edgerton is situated at 38°49′17″ N latitude and 94°42′12″ W longitude. The city encompasses a total area of 1.89 square miles (4.90 km²), all of which is land. It lies in the northeastern part of Kansas, approximately 30 mi southwest of downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

The city experiences a humid subtropical climate (Köppen classification Cfa), characterized by hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters.
