Geography
The suburb is bounded to the north and north-west by the Bremer River. The Main Line railway traverses the southern portion of the suburb, providing a physical boundary and transit corridor. The terrain is characterized by a mix of low-lying areas near the river and elevated residential sections.
History
The area now known as East Ipswich was part of the early expansion of the Ipswich settlement during the 19th century. The suburb's development was closely tied to its proximity to the central township and the establishment of the railway. Ipswich East State School opened on January 27, 1958, to accommodate the growing post-war population.
