Dzierzgonka [d͡ʑɛʐˈɡɔnka] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Markusy, within Elbląg County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland.
Geography
Dzierzgonka is located in the Żuławy Elbląskie (Elbląg Delta) region, in the east-central part of Gmina Markusy, on the Dzierzgoń River. It lies approximately 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) south-east of Markusy, 7 km (4 mi) south of Elbląg, and 76 km (47 mi) west of the regional capital Olsztyn. The village is situated at coordinates 54°2′9″N 19°26′10″E.
History
The village was founded in 1676 by Dutch (Olęder) colonists. Before 1945, the area was part of Germany (East Prussia). Its historical German name was Sorgenort.
Demographics
According to the National Census of Population and Housing from 2021, Dzierzgonka had a population of 65, of which 35.4% were women and 64.6% were men. Earlier data from the 2002 census recorded 81 residents and 27 households. The village has a population of approximately 70 according to other sources.
Landmarks and Infrastructure
- Rotating bridge – A road bridge on the Dzierzgoń River, originally built in 1938. It was a drawbridge that operated by rotation around a vertical axis of a pillar, opened and closed mechanically using a crank. The bridge was renovated in 2013.
- Historic cemetery – Located several hundred metres from the Markusy–Nowe Dolno road, on an artificial mound (terp) on the left bank of the Dzierzgoń River. Mainly grave frame remnants are preserved.
- Bridge from the turn of the 19th/20th century – Listed in the register of historic monuments (entry A-4586 of 2011-12-21).
Transport
The village lies along Voivodeship Road 527 (DW 527), which connects Dzierzgoń with Olsztyn. The nearest railway line is Line 204 (Malbork–Braniewo), with the closest stations in Elbląg.
