Dustin Dean Hite (born November 14, 1983) is an American attorney, politician, and judge from the state of Iowa.
Early Life and Education
Hite was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, in 1983. He earned his undergraduate degree from Central College in 2006 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2009.
Political Career
A member of the Republican Party, Hite served in the Iowa House of Representatives for the 79th district from January 14, 2019, to January 9, 2023. He was first elected in 2018, defeating Democratic candidate Samantha Keith and Libertarian candidate Nicholas Ryan. He was re-elected in 2020 with 98.64% of the vote (running unopposed). Following redistricting, Hite sought re-election in 2022 for the newly drawn Iowa House Seat 88 but lost the Republican primary to Helena Hayes.
Judicial Appointment
In November 2024, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds appointed Hite as a District Court judge in Judicial District 8A, covering several counties including Mahaska County. He assumed the bench in 2025.
Legal Career
Prior to his judicial appointment, Hite was a partner at the Heslinga Law Firm (later Heslinga, Dixon & Hite) in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he practiced law from 2009. He also served as the mayor of New Sharon, Iowa.
Personal Life
Hite resides in New Sharon, Iowa, with his wife, Kate, and their two children.
