Drogomyśl

Drogomyśl is a village located in southern Poland, within Gmina Strumień, Cieszyn County, Silesian Voivodeship (Śląskie Voivodeship). It lies approximately 5 kilometers (3 mi) northwest of Strumień, 24 km (15 mi) northwest of Cieszyn, and 45 km (28 mi) west of the regional capital Katowice.

Geography and Demographics: Drogomyśl is situated in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia, a culturally distinct area characterized by its unique dialect and history. The village is positioned near the Vistula River, which forms part of its geographical landscape. As of the 2011 national census, Drogomyśl had a population of 2,126 residents. The area's terrain is generally low-lying, with a mix of agricultural fields and residential zones.

History: The first historical mention of Drogomyśl dates back to the early 14th century, specifically in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis (Book of foundations of the Bishopric of Wrocław), compiled around 1305. At that time, it was part of the Duchy of Cieszyn, a feudal duchy of the Kingdom of Bohemia. Like the rest of Cieszyn Silesia, Drogomyśl was under the rule of the Bohemian Crown for centuries, later becoming part of the Habsburg Monarchy following the Bohemian succession.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in 1918, the area was disputed between Poland and Czechoslovakia. Following the Polish-Czechoslovak War and subsequent international arbitration, Drogomyśl became part of independent Poland. Historically, the village's economy was deeply rooted in agriculture, a tradition that continues to influence the local community.
