Dries Wouters

Dries Wouters (born 28 January 1997) is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for KV Mechelen in the Belgian Pro League.

Career

Wouters began his youth career at KRC Genk, joining their academy at a young age and progressing through their youth ranks. He made his senior debut for Genk on 9 May 2015, coming on as a substitute in a Belgian Pro League play-off match against Zulte Waregem. Over the subsequent seasons, he gradually established himself as a squad member, making appearances in both domestic league and European competitions for Genk. He was part of the KRC Genk squad that won the Belgian Pro League title in the 2018–19 season and the Belgian Cup in 2021.

In July 2021, Wouters moved to Germany, signing with Schalke 04, who were then in the 2. Bundesliga. He spent one season with the German club, contributing to their promotion back to the Bundesliga. However, his playing time was limited.

Following his spell at Schalke, Wouters returned to Belgium. In August 2022, he joined KV Mechelen on a permanent transfer. He quickly became a more regular feature in Mechelen's defense, cementing his place in the team.

International Career

Wouters has represented Belgium at various youth international levels, including the U17, U18, and U19 teams. He participated in the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship with the Belgian U17 squad.
