Drávafok

Drávafok is a village in Baranya County, Hungary, located in the Southern Transdanubia region. It lies in the southwestern part of the county, approximately 10 kilometers north of the Drava River, which forms part of Hungary's border with Croatia. The village is part of the Sellye District.

Geography and Demographics Drávafok is situated in a predominantly agricultural area, characterized by flat to gently rolling terrain. Its proximity to the Drava River has historically influenced its development, primarily in terms of water management and fertile land for farming. As of the early 21st century, the village maintains a relatively small population, typical of many rural settlements in the region. The economy is largely based on agriculture.

History While not extensively documented in major historical texts, Drávafok's history is tied to the broader Baranya region. Like many villages in this part of Hungary, its existence dates back centuries, often experiencing periods of Ottoman occupation, subsequent re-settlement, and various administrative changes throughout the Habsburg era and into modern Hungary. Its name, incorporating "Dráva" (the river) and "fok" (which can refer to a cape, anabranch, or a point of land, often near water), suggests a strong geographical identification with the Drava River.
