Download was a Canadian industrial music supergroup formed in 1993. It was a side project of cEvin Key and Dwayne Goettel of Skinny Puppy, and featured contributions from various other artists, most notably Genesis P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV).
The band's sound is characterized by its experimental and often chaotic blend of industrial noise, ambient textures, and elements of electronic music. Download's music is often dark, abstract, and challenging, pushing the boundaries of the industrial genre.
Key and Goettel formed Download as a way to explore musical ideas outside the constraints of Skinny Puppy. They were interested in creating a more improvisational and free-form sound. The project allowed them to experiment with new technologies and techniques.
Download released several albums throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including Furnace (1995), The Eyes of Stanley Pain (1996), III (1997), and Effector (2005). Each album displayed a unique aesthetic within the overall Download sound.
Following Dwayne Goettel's death in 1995, cEvin Key continued to work on Download material, often collaborating with other artists. The project remains a significant and influential part of the industrial music landscape, known for its pioneering spirit and experimental approach.
