Dixie Marshall

Dixie Marshall (born March 1963) is a Western Australian former television news presenter and communications executive. She began her broadcasting career with the Nine Network in Perth as a cadet reporter in 1984, later becoming one of Australia’s first female football commentators when she joined the Seven Network in Melbourne during the late 1980s. Returning to Perth in 1993, Marshall transitioned from sports reporting to general news and eventually co‑anchored the weeknight edition of Nine News alongside Peter Holland; in June 2003 she formed, with Sonia Vinci, Australia’s first permanent all‑female weekday evening news presenting team.

In 2011 Marshall left Nine News and entered government service as Director of Government Media for Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett. She was promoted to strategic communications director in January 2015, a role she held until the Barnett government’s defeat in the March 2017 state election. During her tenure she attracted media criticism over the administration’s performance and was cited in parliamentary debate concerning alleged pressure on law‑enforcement officials.

After leaving public service, Marshall joined Dentsu Aegis Network’s content agency The Story Lab as Head of Creative and Partnerships (April 2017). She subsequently moved to the marketing firm Marketforce, leading its Flare division and being appointed Managing Director in December 2020. In addition to her corporate roles, she has served on several boards, including as Chair of GRA Partners.

Marshall is the daughter of former footballer, tennis player, commentator and Liberal Party politician Arthur Marshall. She is married to Luke Morfesse, a former journalist who serves as General Manager of Media and Communications for the Fremantle Football Club, and they have two children.
