Desisa malaccensis is a species of beetle in the family Cerambycidae, commonly known as longhorn beetles. It belongs to the subfamily Lamiinae and the genus Desisa, which comprises numerous species distributed throughout the Oriental region.
Taxonomy
- Kingdom: Animalia
- Phylum: Arthropoda
- Class: Insecta
- Order: Coleoptera
- Family: Cerambycidae
- Subfamily: Lamiinae
- Genus: Desisa
- Species: Desisa malaccensis
Authority
The species was first described by the entomologist Stephan von Breuning in 1963. The original description appeared in a taxonomic revision of Asian Cerambycidae.
Etymology
The specific epithet malaccensis is derived from “Malacca,” a historical region on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula (present‑day Malaysia). The name typically indicates that the type specimen or primary population originates from that area.
Distribution
Desisa malaccensis is known from the Malay Peninsula, with confirmed records from the state of Malacca and surrounding regions. Specimen data in biodiversity databases such as the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and BioLib list occurrences limited to this geographical area.
Morphology
While detailed morphological description is limited in the publicly available literature, members of the genus Desisa generally exhibit the elongated bodies and long antennae characteristic of Lamiinae longhorn beetles. Specific diagnostic characters for D. malaccensis include variations in coloration and elytral patterning that differentiate it from closely related species, as noted in Breuning’s original description.
Habitat
The species inhabits forested environments where host plants for larval development are present. Like many Cerambycidae, the larvae are wood‑borers, developing within dead or dying hardwoods.
Conservation Status
There is no assessment of Desisa malaccensis on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. The paucity of data precludes a formal evaluation of its conservation status.
