Denny Heck

Dennis L. “Denny” Heck (born June 29, 1952) is an American politician and media executive who has served as the U.S. Representative for Washington's 10th congressional district since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, Heck previously held the office of Lieutenant Governor of Washington from 2017 to 2021 and served in the Washington House of Representatives from 1977 to 1985. He is also recognized for co‑founding TVW, Washington State’s public affairs television network.

Early life and education
Heck was born in Vancouver, Washington. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Washington and later obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business.

Political career

Washington House of Representatives (1977–1985)
Heck was first elected to the Washington House of Representatives at age 24, representing the 15th legislative district. During his tenure, he served on committees related to education, transportation, and fiscal matters.

Media entrepreneurship
After leaving the state legislature, Heck co‑founded TVW (Television Washington) in 1993, a non‑partisan public affairs network that provides live coverage of Washington state government proceedings and public policy programming. He served as the network’s CEO and later as chairman of its board.

Lieutenant Governor of Washington (2017–2021)
In the 2016 statewide election, Heck was elected the 18th Lieutenant Governor of Washington, serving under Governor Jay Inslee. In this role, he chaired the Washington State Senate’s Legislative Review Committee, acted as the president of the Senate, and oversaw initiatives on economic development, higher education, and disaster preparedness.

U.S. House of Representatives (2021–present)
Heck was elected to the newly created 10th congressional district in the 2020 election. He serves on the House Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Education and Labor, focusing on issues such as infrastructure investment, education funding, and technology policy.

Other activities
Heck has held positions on the boards of various nonprofit and civic organizations, including the Washington State Arts Commission and the Northwest Economic Association. He has been involved in efforts to expand broadband access and promote renewable energy in the Pacific Northwest.

Personal life
Heck is married to Laurie Heck, a former schoolteacher. The couple has two children and resides in Seattle, Washington.
