Dearborn Hills is a term that refers to two distinct but related entities in Dearborn, Michigan: a historic public golf course and the surrounding residential neighborhood.
Dearborn Hills Golf Course is an 18-hole public golf course located at 1300 S. Telegraph Road in Dearborn, Michigan. It was built in 1922–23 by Robert Herndon, a prominent local developer and benefactor. The course is reputed to be Michigan's oldest public golf course and is listed in the State Register of Historic Sites. After Herndon's death in 1986, his widow deeded the course to the City of Dearborn. It is owned and operated by the City of Dearborn Recreation & Parks Department. The course closed in the summer of 1991 for a nearly $5 million renovation and expansion. It was designed by architect Warner Bowen and features bent grass greens and fairways. Following widespread flooding in 2021 that caused significant water damage, the course underwent restoration and fully reopened in 2025, along with a new clubhouse restaurant called Birdies Restaurant.
Dearborn Hills (neighborhood) is a suburban residential neighborhood on the west side of Dearborn, approximately 15 miles west of downtown Detroit. The neighborhood is bisected by the Dearborn Hills Golf Course and Michigan Avenue. It is characterized by stately Colonial Revival homes, Tudor bungalows, and Craftsman-style houses, many built between 1940 and 1969. The neighborhood has a median household income significantly above the national average, and a notable portion of residents (approximately 29%) identify as having Arab ancestry. The area is served by the Dearborn Public Schools district, including Charles A. Lindbergh Elementary School, Bryant Middle School, and Dearborn High School.
