Dean Kenneally (born 8 March 1967 in Victoria, Australia) is an Australian physiotherapist and former middle-distance runner. He is best known for his work as the primary team physiotherapist for Chelsea FC until 2007, and for his subsequent career in high-performance sports management.
Early Life and Education
Kenneally was educated at Wesley College in Melbourne, Australia.
Athletic Career
During his active sports career, Kenneally specialized in the 800 metres. His achievements include:
- Silver medal at the 1991 Universiade (World University Games)
- Australian 800m Champion in 1990
- 3rd place at the Australian Championships in 1991, 2nd in 1992
- Lifetime best of 1:46.54 in Dijon, France, on 12 June 1992
- 7th place at the World Cup in Havana, Cuba, on 26 September 1992
- Competed at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, finishing 5th in his heat while affected by an Achilles tendon injury sustained 12 days prior
- Won the Men's 800m at the Brisbane Grand Prix in 1994 (1:47.44)
Following an operation on his Achilles tendon in April 1995 and a stress fracture of the foot in 1997, he retired from competitive athletics to focus on his physiotherapy career.
Physiotherapy and Sports Management Career
Kenneally worked as a physiotherapist for Tottenham Hotspur and later became the primary team physiotherapist for Chelsea FC, a role he held until 2007. He also worked with the Australian and British national athletics teams.
