David Shedden

David Shedden (born 30 October 1954) is a former Scottish rugby union player who played as a full‑back. He is best known for his club career with Hawick RFC and for earning international caps with the Scotland national team during the mid‑1970s.

Early life and education
Shedden was born in Hawick, Scottish Borders, Scotland. He attended local schools where he began playing rugby at a young age, joining the youth ranks of Hawick RFC.

Club career
Shedden made his senior debut for Hawick RFC in the early 1970s. As a full‑back, he was noted for his reliable defensive play, positional kicking, and ability to counter‑attack. He contributed to Hawick’s successes in the Scottish Unofficial Championship and the Border League during his tenure, remaining with the club throughout most of his playing career.

International career
Shedden earned five caps for the Scotland national rugby union team between 1976 and 1978. His debut came against Ireland in the 1976 Five Nations Championship. Over his international career, he scored a total of 12 points, primarily from penalty kicks and conversions. He was selected for Scotland’s squad in the 1977 and 1978 Five Nations Championships, playing a role in the team’s defensive structure.
