David Lowe (born 30 August 1965) is an English former professional footballer and current coach who played as a forward and midfielder. His professional playing career spanned from 1982 to 2000, during which he made over 500 appearances in the English Football League.
Lowe began his career at Wigan Athletic, making his debut as a teenager in 1982. During his first spell with the club, he was a member of the side that won the 1985 Associate Members' Cup. In 1987, he transferred to Ipswich Town for a significant fee. At Ipswich, Lowe became a regular starter and was part of the squad that won the Second Division title in the 1991–92 season, earning promotion to the inaugural season of the Premier League.
In 1992, Lowe moved to Leicester City. He played for the club in the 1993 First Division play-off final at Wembley Stadium. After a two-year tenure with Leicester, he returned to Wigan Athletic in 1994. During his second stint at Wigan, he helped the club win the Third Division title in the 1996–97 season. He later had brief spells at Port Vale, Wrexham, and the non-league side Rushden & Diamonds before retiring from active play.
Following his retirement, Lowe transitioned into coaching. He has held several prominent backroom roles, including positions at Wigan Athletic—where he served as caretaker manager on more than one occasion—Derby County, and Blackburn Rovers. He also spent time working within the youth academy system at Manchester United. Lowe is frequently cited in sporting records for his significant contribution to Wigan Athletic, where he remains one of the club's all-time leading appearance makers and goalscorers.
