David Jaye (born September 23, 1963) is an American former politician who served in the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan Senate as a member of the Republican Party. He represented the 24th district in the State House from 1995 to 1998 and the 12th district in the State Senate from 1999 until his expulsion in 2002.
During his tenure, Jaye was noted for his conservative positions on fiscal and social issues. In 2001, he was indicted on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice related to allegations that he had falsified a financial disclosure statement. He was convicted in 2002 of perjury and sentenced to probation, a fine, and community service. Following his conviction, the Michigan Senate voted to expel him, making him one of the few state legislators in U.S. history to be removed from office through an expulsion vote.
After his removal from office, Jaye has remained largely out of the public political sphere. His case is often referenced in discussions of legislative ethics and the mechanisms for disciplining elected officials in state governments.
