David Goode (born 1971) is a distinguished British organist, choirmaster, and teacher, recognized for his virtuosity and extensive discography. He has held prominent positions in some of the UK's most prestigious musical institutions.
Goode began his musical education at a young age and distinguished himself early on. He served as the Organ Scholar at King's College, Cambridge, where he studied under Stephen Cleobury. Following his time at Cambridge, he continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music.
His career includes a series of significant appointments:
- He served as Assistant Organist at Christ Church, Oxford, early in his career.
- He then became Assistant Organist at Eton College.
- From 2008 to 2017, Goode was the Organist at St Paul's Cathedral in London, one of the most prominent musical roles in the UK. In this capacity, he was responsible for the cathedral's music, leading its acclaimed choir and playing for numerous national services and events.
- In 2017, he returned to Eton College, where he currently holds the position of Organist and Head of Keyboard.
Beyond his institutional roles, David Goode maintains an active career as a concert organist, performing across the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States. He is particularly noted for his interpretations of the Romantic and 20th-century organ repertoire, as well as the works of J.S. Bach. His discography includes numerous critically acclaimed recordings for labels such as Hyperion, Priory, and Signum, featuring works by composers including Bach, Dupré, Reger, and Vierne. He is also involved in teaching and mentoring young organists.
