Dave LaRue

Dave LaRue (born October 27, 1956, in East Brunswick, New Jersey) is an American bassist. He is best known for his work with the Dixie Dregs (1988–2017), the Steve Morse Band (since 1989), and the supergroup Flying Colors. He has also collaborated extensively with musicians associated with Dream Theater, including John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian, and Jordan Rudess.

Career

LaRue began his professional career in the late 1970s. He joined the Dixie Dregs in 1988 and remained with the band until 2017. Since 1989, he has been a member of the Steve Morse Band. In 2006, he toured with Joe Satriani on the Super Colossal tour. He is a founding member of Flying Colors, alongside Steve Morse, Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, and Casey McPherson.

Instruments

LaRue is known for playing Music Man bass guitars, including the "Grilver" and "StingRay 5 five-string" models. He has primarily used Music Man's "Bongo" line, which he helped develop, including four- and five-string fretted and fretless models.
