Darrell Shropshire

Darrell Shropshire (born March 18, 1983) is an American former professional football player who played as a defensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) and the Arena Football League (AFL). He was selected in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.

Early life and education

Shropshire was born in Kershaw, South Carolina. He attended Andrew Jackson High School in Kershaw, where he participated in football (defensive end, running back, and tight end) and also played on the basketball team as a center. After high school, he enrolled at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. At Coffeyville, he earned First‑team Junior College All‑America honors, was rated the #7 prospect in the SuperPrep JUCO Top 100, and was named the 2002 Defensive MVP of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. He recorded 54 tackles with six sacks as a freshman and 67 tackles with six sacks as a sophomore.

Shropshire transferred to the University of South Carolina, playing for the Gamecocks. In the 2003 season he started all 12 games at defensive tackle, posting 35 total tackles (17 solo), four tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries, and four pass break‑ups. As a senior in 2004, he recorded 28 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and one quarterback hurry. He graduated with a major in Sport and Entertainment Management.

Professional career

National Football League

  • Draft: Selected 241st overall (7th round) by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2005 NFL Draft.
