Danity Kane
Danity Kane was an American girl group, best known for being formed on the MTV reality television series Making the Band 3 in 2005 by Sean "Diddy" Combs. The group's original lineup consisted of Aubrey O'Day, Dawn Richard, Shannon Bex, Aundrea Fimbres, and D. Woods. They achieved significant commercial success, with both of their first two studio albums debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
Formation and Career
Danity Kane was formed under the guidance of music mogul Diddy during the third season of Making the Band, which documented the audition process, training, and ultimate selection of the group members. After being chosen from thousands of hopefuls, the five women signed a contract with Bad Boy Records. Their name, Danity Kane, was chosen by Aubrey O'Day, and is the name of a female Japanese anime character she had drawn. The group released their self-titled debut album, Danity Kane, on August 22, 2006. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and spawned the hit singles "Show Stopper" and "Ride for You". Both singles achieved success on the Billboard Hot 100.
Their second album, Welcome to the Dollhouse, was released on March 18, 2008. It also debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making them the first female group in Billboard history to have their first two albums debut at the top of the charts. The album featured the popular single "Damaged", which became their highest-charting single on the Hot 100, peaking at number 10.
First Disbandment (2009)
The group's internal struggles and conflicts with Diddy were heavily documented during the fourth and final season of Making the Band 4. In late 2008, Diddy began to publicly fire members of the group, with D. Woods leaving first, followed by Aubrey O'Day and Shannon Bex. Aundrea Fimbres and Dawn Richard initially remained, but the group officially disbanded in early 2009 when Fimbres and Richard also parted ways with Bad Boy Records.Reunion and Second Disbandment (2013-2014)
In May 2013, four of the original members – Aubrey O'Day, Dawn Richard, Shannon Bex, and Aundrea Fimbres – announced their reunion, with D. Woods choosing not to participate. They performed together at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show.In May 2014, Aundrea Fimbres announced her departure from the group to focus on her family, leaving Danity Kane as a trio. This lineup (O'Day, Richard, and Bex) began working on new material. However, in August 2014, an altercation between O'Day and Richard led to the group's second and final disbandment.
Despite the split, the trio decided to release their third and final studio album, DK3, on October 27, 2014. The album featured songs recorded before their final breakup.
