Daniel Gowing

Daniel Gowing (born 19 November 1979) is an Irish former professional rugby league footballer who played as a second-row or lock in Australia's National Rugby League (NRL). He represented Ireland internationally.

Early Life and Career

Gowing was born in Gosford, New South Wales, Australia, and began his rugby league career through junior pathways.

Playing Career

Gowing commenced his professional career in the National Rugby League (NRL), primarily playing as a second-row forward or at lock.

Club Career

  • North Queensland Cowboys (1998-2001): Gowing made his NRL debut for the North Queensland Cowboys. He spent several seasons with the club, gaining experience at the top level of Australian rugby league.
  • Sydney Roosters (2002-2003): He then moved to the Sydney Roosters, where he was part of their successful squad. While at the Roosters, he contributed to their campaigns, though competition for spots was intense.
  • Newcastle Knights (2004-2005): Gowing concluded his NRL career with the Newcastle Knights.

International Career

Despite being Australian-born, Gowing qualified to represent Ireland through his heritage. He played for the Ireland national rugby league team, featuring in international fixtures, most notably during the 2000 Rugby League World Cup where he represented the "Wolfhounds" on the international stage.

Post-Playing Career

Following his retirement from professional rugby league, Gowing has remained involved in various capacities within the community and sport.
