Daniel Freyberg (born 4 February 1982 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish‑born Finnish heavy‑metal musician, composer, and guitarist. Active since 2003, he is known for his work as vocalist and frontman of the melodic death‑metal band Naildown and for his tenure as guitarist in several prominent Finnish metal groups.
Early life and background
Born to Finnish parents in Stockholm, Freyberg moved to Finland during his youth. He began playing guitar in his early teens, developing a style influenced by melodic death metal, power metal, and classic heavy‑metal bands.
Career
- Naildown – Founder, vocalist, and primary songwriter. The band released the single “Eyes Wide Open” (2005), the album World Domination (2005), the e‑single “Judgement Ride” (2007), and the album Dreamcrusher (2007).
- Norther – Joined as guitarist in 2011, contributing to the track “Circle Regenerated.”
- Children of Bodom – Joined as a guitarist in 2016, replacing longtime member Alexi Laiho for the band’s final touring cycle. He performed with the group until its disbandment in 2019.
- Bodom After Midnight – Continued with former Children of Bodom members in this project, contributing to the EP Paint the Sky with Blood (2021).
- Crownshift – Current guitarist and vocalist for the band formed after his work with Bodom After Midnight.
Musical style and equipment
Freyberg’s playing combines rapid, melodic riffing with harmonic minor scales characteristic of Scandinavian melodic death metal. He has endorsed ESP guitars, EMG pickups, ENGL amplifiers, and DR strings.
