Daniel Diermeier (born July 16, 1965) is a German‑American political scientist and university administrator. He has served as the ninth chancellor of Vanderbilt University since July 2020. Prior to that, Diermeier was the David Lee Shillinglaw Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago, where he also held the position of provost from 2016 to 2020.
Early life and education
Born in West Berlin, Germany, Diermeier emigrated to the United States for higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana‑Champaign and completed his Ph.D. in political science at the University of California, Berkeley.
