Dan Schoen

Dan Schoen (born 1978) is an American former politician who served as a member of the Minnesota Senate from 2013 to 2018. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), he represented District 56, which encompasses parts of the southwestern suburbs of the Twin Cities.

Early life and education
Schoen was born in Minnesota. Details about his early education and professional background prior to entering politics are limited in publicly available sources.

Political career
Schoen was first elected to the Minnesota Senate in the 2012 election cycle and took office on January 8, 2013. During his tenure, he served on several legislative committees, including those dealing with education, health, and transportation. He was re‑elected in 2016.

Resignation
In early January 2018, media reports surfaced alleging that Schoen had engaged in sexual harassment toward a former Senate staff member. Following an internal investigation by the Senate and public pressure, Schoen announced his resignation from the Senate on January 30, 2018, effective immediately. He cited the desire to avoid further distractions from legislative work as a reason for stepping down. The vacancy was filled in accordance with state procedures.

Legacy
Schoen’s resignation contributed to broader discussions within Minnesota’s political community regarding workplace conduct, harassment policies, and the handling of misconduct allegations involving elected officials.
