Dan Povenmire (born September 18, 1963) is an American animator, writer, director, producer, and voice actor. He is best known as the co-creator, executive producer, writer, and storyboard director of the Disney Channel animated series Phineas and Ferb (2007–2015), for which he received multiple Emmy Awards. Povenmire has also contributed to several other animated television programs and feature films.
Early life and education
Povenmire was born in Mobile, Alabama, United States. He attended the University of Southern California (USC), where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in film production. While at USC, he was involved in student film projects and developed an interest in animation and storytelling.
Career
Early work
After graduating, Povenmire worked as an animator and storyboard artist on The Simpsons (1990–1991) and The Critic (1994–1995). He also contributed to the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants (1999) as a storyboard artist.
Co-creation of Phineas and Ferb
In 2005, Povenmire partnered with fellow animator Jeff "Jorge" Garcia to develop Phineas and Ferb, a comedy series centered on two step‑brothers who embark on elaborate, imaginative projects during their summer vacation. The series premiered on Disney Channel in August 2007 and ran for four seasons, spawning a feature-length film (Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension, 2011) and a spin‑off series (Milo Murphy’s Law, 2016–2019). Povenmire served as co‑executive producer, co‑writer, and co‑director, and provided the voice for several minor characters.
Later projects
Following Phineas and Ferb, Povenmire worked on the Disney XD series Milo Murphy’s Law (2016–2019) as co‑creator and executive producer. He has also contributed to other animated productions, including The Owl House (2020) as a storyboard consultant.
