Dampierre-en-Yvelines is a commune located in the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France region of north-central France. It is situated within the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Nature Park, approximately 35 kilometers southwest of central Paris.
The commune is primarily recognized for the Château de Dampierre, a major work of French Baroque architecture. The current structure was built between 1675 and 1683 for Charles Honoré d'Albert, Duke of Luynes, following the designs of Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the premier architect to King Louis XIV. The estate features extensive formal gardens and parkland designed by the landscape architect André Le Nôtre. The property remained the residence of the d'Albert de Luynes family for over three centuries before being sold to a private owner in 2018.
Geographically, the village is located in the Yvette river valley and is surrounded by dense woodlands, including parts of the Rambouillet forest. The commune is characterized by its historical stone architecture and its preservation within a protected environmental zone. Administratively, Dampierre-en-Yvelines is part of the arrondissement of Rambouillet and the canton of Maurepas. Its population has remained relatively consistent in the 21st century, hovering around 1,000 residents.
