Daley Thompson

Sir Daley Thompson (born 30 July 1958) is a retired British track and field athlete who specialised in the decathlon. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest decathletes in the history of the sport, having won two consecutive Olympic gold medals (1980 Moscow and 1984 Los Angeles) and setting multiple world records during his career.

Early life and education
Daley Thompson was born in Telford, Shropshire, England. He attended Telford College of Further Education, where he began training under coach Tom McNellan, later joining the coaching partnership of McNellan and his father-in-law, Charles "Charlie" Whitfield. Thompson showed early promise in multiple athletic disciplines, excelling in sprinting, jumping, and throwing events.

Athletic career
