Dai Woodward (born Laurence Woodward, 5 July 1918 – December 1997) was a Welsh professional footballer who played as a wing half. He is best known for his long association with Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, for whom he made over 270 appearances in the Football League.
Early life and career
Woodward was born in Troed-y-rhiw, Wales. He began his senior career with Folkestone before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1938. He also had a loan spell with Walsall during the 1938–1939 season.
Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic
In 1939, Woodward joined Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, where he would remain for the rest of his playing career. He made over 270 Football League appearances for the club as a wing half, a career that spanned from 1939 until his retirement from playing in 1953.
Coaching career
After retiring as a player, Woodward remained with Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, coaching the club's youth and reserve teams until 1964.
Personal life
One of Woodward's relatives, Viv, was also a professional footballer and earned one cap for the Wales national team.
Woodward died in Bournemouth, England, in December 1997 at the age of 79.
