DPMS Panther Arms is an American firearms manufacturer known for producing AR-15 style rifles, parts, and accessories. The company was founded in 1985 by Randy Luth as "Defense Procurement Manufacturing Services" (DPMS), initially supplying parts for military contracts before transitioning to civilian firearms manufacturing.
History
DPMS began in Osseo, Minnesota, focusing on providing high-quality parts for military small arms. Over time, the company expanded into manufacturing complete firearms, specializing in the AR-15 platform. Their "Panther Arms" brand became widely recognized in the civilian market for its range of AR-style rifles, including various calibers and configurations.
In December 2007, DPMS was acquired by the Freedom Group (later known as Remington Outdoor Company), a conglomerate that also owned Remington Arms, Marlin Firearms, Bushmaster Firearms, and other prominent firearms brands. Under the Freedom Group, DPMS continued to operate as a distinct brand, expanding its product line and market presence.
Following the bankruptcy and liquidation of Remington Outdoor Company in 2020, the future of many of its subsidiary brands, including DPMS, became uncertain. However, in 2021, the DPMS Panther Arms brand and intellectual property were acquired by JJE Capital Holdings, the parent company of Palmetto State Armory (PSA). Under PSA's ownership, there have been efforts to revitalize and reintroduce DPMS products to the market.
