Dänikon is a municipality (German: Gemeinde) in the district of Dielsdorf, located in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland. It lies in the Limmat Valley, approximately 12 km northwest of the city of Zürich.
Geography
The municipality covers an area of 2.8 km² (1.1 sq mi). The terrain is characterized by a mixture of agricultural land, forested areas, and residential zones. Dänikon is situated at an elevation of about 420 meters (1,378 feet) above sea level. It borders the municipalities of Dällikon, Regensdorf, and Oberengstringen.
History
Dänikon was first documented in the 12th century under the name “Denenchoven.” Throughout the Middle Ages, it was part of the holdings of the Abbey of Muri and later came under the jurisdiction of the city of Zürich. The modern municipal structure was established following the administrative reforms of the Canton of Zürich in the 19th century.
