Economy and Infrastructure Historically an agricultural community, Däniken has evolved into a residential municipality with some local businesses and industries. Its strategic location close to major transport routes is a key feature:
- Road: It is situated near the A1 motorway, a major east-west artery in Switzerland, providing easy access to larger urban centers like Zurich, Bern, and Basel.
- Rail: The main railway line between Olten and Aarau, and further to Zurich, passes through the municipality, with a local train station providing regional connections. The local economy includes small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in services, light manufacturing, and construction. Many residents commute to work in the larger surrounding towns and cities.
History The earliest known mention of Däniken dates back to 1103 as Tanninchon. Like many communities in the region, its history is deeply intertwined with the development of the larger Solothurn region, including periods under local feudal lords and eventually becoming part of the Canton of Solothurn. Over centuries, it maintained a predominantly agricultural character before experiencing growth and suburbanization in the 20th century due to its favorable transport links.
Administration Däniken belongs to the district of Olten within the Canton of Solothurn. The cantonal capital, Solothurn, is located to the west. The municipality operates its own local government, responsible for local services such as schooling, public works, and local planning.
