Cyril Trigg

Cyril David Trigg (20 July 1917 – 17 November 1993) was a Welsh professional footballer who played as an outside-right. His career spanned the period before, during, and after the Second World War, primarily in the English Football League.

Biography

Born in Bedwas, Monmouthshire, Wales, Trigg began his football career in the mid-1930s. He was known for his speed and ability to deliver crosses from the wing. His professional playing career was significantly impacted by World War II, during which he served and made guest appearances for various clubs. He passed away in 1993 at the age of 76.

Playing Career

Trigg started his professional journey with Newport County, making his debut in 1936. He established himself as a regular player before the outbreak of World War II, scoring a notable number of goals for the club.

With the suspension of league football during the war, Trigg joined Plymouth Argyle in 1939. He remained officially on their books throughout the war years, making wartime appearances for them and other clubs as a guest player. After the war, he returned briefly to Newport County before moving to Swindon Town in 1947.

At Swindon Town, Trigg continued to be a consistent performer on the wing for two seasons. He later had spells with Exeter City and then finished his senior career in non-league football with Barry Town.
