History
Coquimbo Unido's origins trace back to the mid-20th century, emerging from the merger of local amateur football clubs in the port city of Coquimbo. After gaining professional status, the club entered the Chilean Segunda División (now Primera B) in the early 1960s. The team has a history characterized by promotions and relegations between Chile's top two professional leagues.A significant period for the club was the 1991 season, where they achieved a remarkable second-place finish in the Primera División, their highest league position to date. This success earned them a spot in the 1992 [[Copa Libertadores]], marking their first appearance in South America's most prestigious club competition.
In more recent times, Coquimbo Unido has experienced a resurgence, returning to the Primera División and making notable appearances in the [[Copa Sudamericana]]. Their most successful international campaign came in the 2020 edition of the Copa Sudamericana, where they reached the semi-finals before being eliminated.
Stadium
The club's home ground is the Estadio Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso, located in Coquimbo. Originally inaugurated in 1970, the stadium underwent a major renovation in 2008 in preparation for the [[2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup]]. It has a seating capacity of approximately 22,000 spectators and is architecturally designed to resemble a pirate ship, reflecting the club's nickname and the city's maritime heritage.Colours and Badge
Coquimbo Unido's traditional kit colours are yellow and black, typically displayed in vertical stripes for their home matches. The club's badge prominently features pirate-themed imagery, such as a skull or a pirate ship, reinforcing their "Los Piratas" identity.Honours
