The Communications and Information Systems Battalion (Lithuanian: Ryšių ir informacinių sistemų batalionas), often abbreviated as RISB, is a specialized military unit within the [[Lithuanian Armed Forces]]. Its primary mission is to provide, maintain, and secure robust and reliable communications and information technology (IT) support for the entire armed forces, both in national operations and during international deployments.
Role and Mission
The battalion's critical functions encompass a wide range of services essential for modern military operations:- Tactical and Strategic Communications: Establishing and managing secure voice, data, and video communication links across various command levels. This includes radio, satellite, and wired communication networks, ensuring connectivity between deployed units, command centers, and allied forces.
- Information Systems Support: Deploying, configuring, and maintaining the hardware and software infrastructure for military command and control systems, intelligence analysis, logistics, and administrative applications. This involves managing servers, networks, and end-user devices.
- Cyber Security: Protecting military networks and data from cyber threats, including monitoring, detection, and response to cyber attacks, and implementing defensive measures to ensure information integrity and availability.
- Information Warfare Support: Providing technical expertise and infrastructure for information operations, enabling the secure dissemination and reception of information in a contested environment.
- Training: Conducting training for its own personnel on the latest communication technologies and IT security protocols, as well as providing expertise and training to other military units on communication procedures and equipment operation.
- Deployment Support: Accompanying deployed units to establish and maintain their communication and IT lifelines in operational areas, often in challenging and remote environments.
