Coming Home (Lionel Richie album)

Coming Home is the eighth studio album by American singer-songwriter Lionel Richie. It was released on September 12, 2006, by Island Records. The album marked Richie's return to a more contemporary R&B and pop sound, diverging from the adult contemporary style of some of his earlier 21st-century releases.

Richie collaborated with a new generation of producers and songwriters for Coming Home, including Dallas Austin, Jermaine Dupri, Stargate, Raphael Saadiq, Sean Garrett, and will.i.am. This approach was intended to refresh his sound while retaining his signature melodic and lyrical style. The album features a blend of ballads and more uptempo tracks, exploring themes of love, relationships, and self-reflection.

The lead single from the album, "I Call It Love," was released prior to the album and achieved moderate success, charting on several international singles charts.

Upon its release, Coming Home received mixed to positive reviews from music critics. Many praised Richie's effort to update his sound and connect with a younger audience, while some felt the album sometimes struggled to fully integrate his classic style with modern production. Commercially, the album performed well, particularly in the United States, where it debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, making it his highest-charting album in over a decade at that time. It also charted in several other countries, including the United Kingdom, where it reached number 15 on the UK Albums Chart. The album's success demonstrated Richie's enduring appeal and his ability to adapt to evolving musical trends.
