Cobban is an unincorporated community located in the town of Eagle Point, Chippewa County, Wisconsin, United States. It is situated on the eastern bank of the Chippewa River, positioned between the village of Jim Falls to the south and the city of Cornell to the north.
The community is historically associated with the Cobban Bridge, a notable two-span Pennsylvania overhead truss bridge constructed in 1908. The bridge was recognized as a rare surviving example of its engineering type and served as a crossing over the Chippewa River for over a century. Due to structural deterioration and safety concerns, the bridge was closed to traffic in the early 21st century and was eventually dismantled after extensive local deliberation regarding its preservation.
As an unincorporated community, Cobban does not possess a distinct municipal government. Jurisdictional oversight, including law enforcement, road maintenance, and land use planning, is provided by the Town of Eagle Point and Chippewa County. The area is characterized by a mix of residential properties and agricultural land within the Chippewa Valley region. According to the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), the community is located at an elevation of approximately 915 feet (279 meters).
