Coast was a Canadian folk rock band formed in Vancouver, British Columbia. Active primarily in the early to mid-2000s, the band was known for its melodic songwriting, rich vocal harmonies, and blend of acoustic and electric instruments.
Coast consisted of Luke Doucet (vocals, guitar), Pete Lesperance (guitar, vocals), John Dinsmore (bass), and Leon Power (drums). Doucet and Lesperance, having previously worked together in the band Veal, were the core songwriters and vocalists.
The band released two studio albums: Coast (2003) and The Great Optimist (2005). Their music received critical acclaim and airplay on Canadian radio, particularly on CBC Radio. Key singles included "Tightrope" and "Authority."
Coast toured extensively throughout Canada and parts of the United States, sharing stages with acts such as Blue Rodeo and Ron Sexsmith.
The band dissolved in 2006, with members pursuing individual projects. Luke Doucet continued his solo career and collaborations, notably with Melissa McClelland as Whitehorse. Pete Lesperance continued working as a session musician and producer. Dinsmore and Power continued with various musical endeavors.
Despite their relatively short career, Coast left a lasting impact on the Canadian folk rock scene and are remembered for their well-crafted songs and engaging live performances.
