CoCo Vandeweghe (born March 6 1991) is an American professional tennis player. She has competed on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour since 2008 and has achieved notable results in both singles and doubles competition.
Early life and background
Vandeweghe was born in New York City. She is the daughter of former professional tennis player Brigitte Vandeweghe and the sister of former WTA player Ryan Vandeweghe. She began playing tennis at a young age and attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she played collegiate tennis for the Bruins before turning professional.
Professional career
Singles
Vandeweghe turned professional in 2008. She broke into the top 50 of the WTA singles rankings in 2014 and reached a career‑high ranking of No. 26 on 12 May 2015. Her most prominent Grand Slam singles performance was a semifinal appearance at the 2017 Australian Open, where she defeated top‑10 players Petra Kvitová and Garbiñe Muguruza before losing to Serena Williams. Vandeweghe has won two WTA singles titles: the 2014 Southern California Open in Carlsbad and the 2016 Washington, D.C. International.
Doubles
Vandeweghe has achieved greater success in doubles, attaining a career‑high ranking of No. 3 on 22 May 2018. She has won 12 WTA doubles titles, including two Grand Slam mixed‑doubles championships with partner Jamie Liu at the 2012 US Open and the 2018 Australian Open. In women’s doubles, she reached the final of the 2018 Australian Open partnering with Ashleigh Barty.
