History The area that would become Clover was initially settled in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily driven by the logging industry. The rich timber resources of northern Wisconsin attracted settlers and entrepreneurs. As logging operations expanded, small communities like Clover emerged to serve the needs of the workers and to facilitate timber transportation.

The Town of Clover was officially established as a civil town, and the community of Clover served as a local hub. Farming also played a role in the local economy once much of the old-growth timber was cleared. Like many small rural communities in the Upper Midwest, Clover experienced periods of growth and decline mirroring the boom-and-bust cycles of its primary industries.

Economy and Culture Today, Clover remains a small, rural community. Its economy is largely supported by tourism, outdoor recreation (hunting, fishing, snowmobiling), agriculture, and forestry. Many residents also commute to larger nearby towns for work. The community maintains a quiet, rural character, reflective of its historical roots. Local historical societies, such as the Cloverland Historical Society, work to preserve the heritage of the area, including the history of logging and early settlement.

Infrastructure As an unincorporated community, Clover does not have its own municipal government but falls under the jurisdiction of the Town of Clover and Bayfield County. Local services are provided at the town and county levels.
